Undead Winter Organizer
You don't have time for a long set-up when the zombies are closing in. Start fighting faster with our Undead Winter Organizer compatible with Dead of Winter game box. All game pieces are contained within removable trays making setup a breeze. The card lane is wide enough for sleeved cards and we include 13 dividers to separate every card type.
Notes on Sleeved Cards: The pictures show all cards sleeved in Mayday Premium Sleeves (MDG7077). Due to the extra space needed for premium sleeves, the card divider spacings are pre-set for you. Engravings on the side of the wall indicate which cards occupy each slot.
NOTE: Does not support Warring Colonies.
NOTE: We've been informed that there are different Dead of Winter game boxes. See box measurement note below.

SLEEVING NOTE: The card section of this organizer is divided and labeled for the base game and supports 0.04mm standards sleeves and 0.1mm premium sleeves. This doesn't accommodate thicker sleeves like Dragon Shield.
The game has been 10 times easier to set up and break down, as well as play, since I put it in the Broken Token organizer. I use premium card sleeves and the fit is a bit tight, but they do fit, and I can close the box with everything in it now. The game is fun, and several people I've introduced to it have gone on to buy their own sets, and when they see how it is with the organizer, they can't believe the difference. I am sold on Broken Token products. You guys think of everything.
RESPONSE: This is why we do what we do!! Thanks for the kind words :D
Almost perfect, but not quite.
This is a pretty amazing product for any true Dead of Winter fan. The original box is difficult to organize with the biggest issue being keeping the cards separated for easier set up on the next game. I would definitely recommend purchasing it. However, there are a few things to note that keep this from being a perfect storage solution, as well as some suggestions to potential customers.
The biggest issue with the organizer is that it doesn't really take into account the location and player cards. They don't really fit anywhere perfectly and if you simply stack it on top of the colony board, the box doesn't close perfectly. The simplest solution is to not include the instruction booklet and the box closes better, albeit not perfectly. This is kind of a hassle given that the instructions are rather important when introducing my friends to the game. Another issue that occurred was that some of the edges on sections of the organizer broke off without any difficulty. Thankfully, the 4 areas this occurred weren't very noticeable. Lastly, the main section fit VERY tightly and took off some of the actual box to fit.
Some suggestions to would-be customers.
1. Glue isn't necessary, but highly recommended for the starter token as well as some of the interior organizers. My character and zombie box would not latch together on one corner, so I had to glue it so that it would stay together.
2. It is not necessary to glue the main section that fits into the box and it is actually easier to get it to stay together if you didn't.
3. When separating the pieces, use an X-Acto knife or something similar and simply push down on the connected spots on both sides. It seems instinctive to cut across the connected spot, but it's much easier to just push down and keep the pieces as nice as possible. The sharper the knife, the better.
4. Make sure to have a rubber or wooden mallet! This makes assembly so much easier, just tap everything together carefully. I used a wooden mallet that had a large flat surface and it made the task much easier.
Overall, this product comes highly recommended. Aside from the issue of player and location mat placement, this is one of the best solutions out there!
RESPONSE: Wow thanks for taking the time to leave such a great review and detailed review. Fantastic - would recommend
by Claus Bornich
This makes keeping cards and tokens so much more pleasant. It looks great and fits perfectly. A bit of assembly is required, but easy for even an amateur like me. I used a knife and a very small amount of wood glue to ensure it would fit perfectly and make it solid, but everything fit together so well I suspect I could have managed without.
I have discovered a small flaw (which is why it loses a star). The removable token container does not have a lid and when moving the box about the tokens can get mixed together. I managed to turn the box upside down once and all the tokens had to be collected from all over inside the box.
PS! I strongly recommend sleeving the cards. It makes sliding cards back into the organizer super simple, even when sliding a single card in a full slot, as well as protecting the cards and making shuffling easier.
Must-have organizer for setup time
If you're going to be playing this game on the regular, or even intermittently, an organizer outside of the baggies the original box comes with is a must-have. This particular one does the job pretty well with the standard box set (I do not have the expansion so am unfamiliar with how its components would fit) - if you want to *drastically* reduce your setup time, and let's be honest that's a large part of getting comrades new to board games to continue to be interested in them, then this is truly a must-buy item. From keeping the myriad decks separated to a concise, easily accessible, and central token hub, it also fits in the original box and is not a pain in the neck to build - easily cuts set-up time by a third. Very pleased with it.
very useful supplement
You can shorten the set-up time, a very useful supplement.
I ordered it from Japan, the product has arrived after one week. (Postage $22.75)
Parts are easily detached from the frame.
Cutter and Hammer are not necessary.
you may use a bond in order to prevent the gap.
It will be able to also be completed in about 30 minutes in a clumsy person.
Cards placed in the sleeve can be accommodated.
And storage space are using the hard type of sleeve might feel narrow.
Since I often carry put a board game in the bag,
Barricade, injured, in the box to put a marker, such as noise wearing a lid with urethane.
Since DoW Long Night is a released in Japan yet, do not know this set can be used.
I think this is absolutely essential to this game. There's way too many cards an components to deal with to not have this organizer. I'd say the game is almost unplayable with my game group without it.
In my group, I'm the "gamer" one that buys most if not all the games. I love this game, but my group wouldn't give this game a chance based on the long setup without the organizer. Anything that takes more than a few minutes to set up already has people losing interest since they go into every game skeptical. Starting the game with a negative opinion of the game just from the setup really hurts their ability to have fun during the game. Without this insert, this game wouldn't get played.
I'm even for the Long Night insert to come out before trying to play that since this insert makes such a difference.
Makes a great game even better
by Stefan Yates
This organizer served as a solution to one of my only criticisms of this game: set up time. The Broken Token organizer for Dead of Winter is perfect for speeding up the organization and set up of this game and has made this time-consuming but necessary detail much quicker and smoother. If you enjoy Dead of Winter, you will enjoy it that much more with this organizer.
Great storage solution!
by Brian L.
I was less with enthused with the original insert for this game, and I was so glad to be able to chuck it for this great replacement. I love how everything is labeled for ease in putting stuff away, and I'm always a fan of inserts with removable trays. It was very easy to put together, and it all fit together so well that I only needed to use a little bit of glue on ONE edge! That's impressive.
The only criticism I have is that, although the game board fits snugly, it doesn't really accommodate the location placard thingies (or whatever they're called) very well. BUT this is only a slight complaint and it doesn't ruin anything for me. A great product and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
Easy to build, durable, looks great and makes it a brezz to set up and break down the game.
I would recomend this product. I would buy it again.
Braken token-keep up the good work. If you make a product for zombicide black plague i will buy.
Chaos, Meet Order.
I love to get down with some board games, but sitting down with some buds and a game of any complexity is always such a hassle. The pieces are small and always in so many little ziploc bags. Or perhaps worse, all jumbled together from a hurried cleanup from the last session -- now let's play "Sort the Little Cardboard Bits" for half an hour before we even get to the game part of the game!
Enter The Broken Token. They make laser-cut wooden organizers to fit inside the original game boxes and make all that hassle a thing of the past. If you can think of a game that's a pain in the butt to set up and put away, they probably have something for you.
Cards: Organized by type!
Standee Chaos: Contained!
Dice: In classy trays!
Classy as Hell: Check and Check!
I bought the one for my main squeeze Dead of Winter and it assembled flawlessly in 15 minutes with no tape or glue, saving HOURS of playtime to come. I recommend without reservation!
Perfect, but a bit snug for the expansion
This is the second of these organizers that I've bought. The first was for the original Dead of Winter, and it's absolutely perfect; fits together without a single drop of glue, makes setup and teardown a breeze, keeps all of the cards separate, and even looks good. Awesome!
So, when I finally got the expansion, I knew exactly what I was going to do. And once again, it didn't disappoint. The only real problem with it if you plan to use it with the expansion is that there's not quite enough space; I had to slide the Raxxon cards in with the Exiled objectives slot (since TLN has much less of those), the Super Zombies are mixed in with the normal zombies, and the Bandits have found a spot for themselves in an empty part of the box. Plus, since the expansion's location boards are thick card stock instead of flimsy paper, they take up considerably more space, so the box doesn't close all of the way.
Still - if you're here wondering if it works with the expansion, yes, it does. It's a little bit of a tight fit, but it's absolutely worth it.
This is a great organizer for a game that desperately needs one. The card divisions and pull-out trays are fantastic and drastically simplify setup, tear down, and even the game play itself by keeping everything you need within easy reach.
My only complaint is that there isn't a built-in place for the location boards and player reference cards, they just have to slide around on top of or inside of the main board. I was really surprised and kind of bummed that the organizer lacked a place for those.
Fits perfectly into the game box, and I had no trouble getting the pieces together. Astounding level of precision on the laser cutting, all pieces fit together snugly. With a little glue, I have every confidence that everything will stand the test of time. I used Ultra Pro penny sleeves on my cards, and had no problem getting all of them to fit.
The only con: The Broken Token doesn't make one of these for every game I own.
Chaos to Completely Awesome
TL;DR: This kit is amazing. Buy it. You don't know what you're missing until it's assembled and in the box. BK's products seem to be of extremely high quality.
One of the challenges of this golden age of boardgaming are the sheer number of pieces, card decks, and bits and bobs. While most people don't feel like spending another 30$ on an already-40-60$ game is worth it, they don't know what they're missing when you have a game with this many pieces.
Nothing dampens the vibe of playing a fun game than opening a box and having stuff be EVERYWHERE. "Oh joy, we get to clean everything up and then play in 20 minutes" .
This is particularly true if you have players who 1) Have never played the game before and 2) Might be a standard gamer who hasn't played games like DoW before.
If there are a million pieces, and they are scattered around, there's a sense of impending complexity.
If there are a million pieces, and they are completely sorted and organized, there's a sense of 'There sure are a lot of pieces, but it looks well put together, I'm interested how they work together'.
Of course, you should reserve your extra dough for your those games that have the worn out box edges, those games that always get people excited, those games that you center a night around. DoW is one of those games, and this organizer/insert set is fantastic. The engraving for the cards and pieces was what really drew me in to this. I didn't see this labeling on many of the other BK's products -- I would suggest that BK consider doing this for most of it's game-specific products.
The pieces came very well cut out, and they fit very tightly together. I didn't have to use glue on most pieces, but I did just to be sure. I was pretty forceful on some joints, and I never broke a piece, so the wood appears to be pretty strong (this isn't balsa wood). I really like the color contrast of the edges of the wood when in a joint. It has a very Craftsman (the housing style) type feel to it. I used a small piece of 300+ grit sand paper to make some of the edges fit a little better, but that is part of the fun.
Instructions were very clear (graphical, with minimal text) and on a nice glossy color page.
It all fits 'just so' in the game box, and the tolerancing of the pieces is phenomenal. This is an organizer that will get a bit of 'that's awesome' when opening the box and setting the game up more-or-less instantly. Cards go back in their respective slots, and I'd even use the organizer as an 'in-game' holder of cards if need be.
The bonus 'first player' token was also a stroke of genius and was a great use of what was probably a blank space on the wood panel. Give someone a few free drinks at BK for thinking up that one. It really makes the first player much more visible at the table [whereas the game supplied one can get buried)
Overall there's nothing bad to say about this kit. Assembly did take some time, but it was fun to do, and the best part was putting all the pieces in their spots at the end of it.
Things this organizer will do:
*Aesthetics - Definitely give you a great presentation factor of the game to your players [most people have never seen these organizers before]. This helps with new players/players who aren't normally into these types of games, I feel.
*In Game Efficiency - Not only a storage solution, but an in-game piece management solution (the trays are removable and keep all the pieces together)
*Cards that are used just at the beginning [betrayer goal cards, game objective cards] are used then put back in their respective slot. [NB - the card holder does not come out of the box, but that's not a problem]. This was really what sold me beyond the other things.
*All location cards have their own slot so are a snap to shuffle and put down.
*Zombie and Character standees have separate bins!
*Setup/Teardown Efficiency - Setup and cleanup is probably able to be done on the order of 2-3 minutes. More time to have fun.
*Further customization - for the creatively-inclined, the wood is a blank canvas just begging for further customization/staining. Stain the wood dark brown, get some red paint, and go Jackson Pollack on them to give that zombie-busting blood splatter.
*Your work area will smell like a woodshop for a bit while you put the kit together [1-2 hours], and will channel your inner Ron Swanson. You might grow a mustache.
I cannot speak to longevity as I've only had it for a short time, but I expect this will last far longer than the exterior cardboard box will. [potential future product for BK here - replacement game boxes that wrap around your inserts]
So if you own DoW [which, btw, is truly an AWESOME game, and super fun], this kit is 100% worth the extra coin.
Another great insert from the team at TBT
by Rusty GingerBear
I have a lot of inserts from The Broken Token (TBT) and know what they can do for a game. Even with that, I continue to be amazed at their products.
The directions were fairly easy to understand and follow, and I had the insert together in about 15~20 minutes. I taped the edges of the boxes, since they're always in and out of the box. The card slots were sized perfectly for each grouping of cards (if left unsleeved) and labeled to make finding and storing quicker. Their inserts always make game setup, breakdown, and play easier, faster, and more enjoyable.
On the bonus side, they include an amazing Start Player piece that's 1000% better than the original, included piece.
As an added bonus, Ashley personalized my receipt by drawing an adorable bear and personally thanking me.
Another terrific organizer!
This is my second purchase from The Broken Token. The pieces fit very easily together. I added a dab of wood glue here and there for added stability, especially on the large outer part. I really like the etched labels for the tokens! My only problem with this particular product is that the card slots don't work well if you have sleeved cards. I know that they mention a particular brand that I'm not using, but I've seen this issue in other reviews using the recommended sleeves. This is still not a deal-breaker; the cards (in sleeves) still fit in their proper area, but in my case, they're all in one big stack. Removing the dividers gives plenty of room, ensuring the whole game fits in the original box. Overall, I am happy with this organizer, and I look forward to not only my next board game purchase, but to my next Broken Token product to help me organize it!
Can you tell us what size the sleeves are? We appreciate your honest review and feedback!

Perfect addition to the game
by Joe Schirmer
This was quick and easy to put together and now it makes setup and teardown of the game much quicker. I love the separate tray for the tokens which are used during the game, it makes it easy to pass around to whoever needs a token and helps to keep the play area tidy.
This organizer is great. It maximizes space and really helps keep everything in order.
This is easily the best organized that I have purchased from Broken Token and I cannot recommend it enough.
by Sam VanDyke
I struggle with purchasing these because, the argument goes, I could buy another game for the cost of this tray. I made my own foam core tray but was never satisfied with it. I decided to purchase this because I really love this game and it looks great in the pictures and it makes setup easy. Well, these things are true. I stained and hard coated my tray and it looks fantastic. I am glad I purchased it, but I can only do this for the games that I really really love. I think I may have to buy the Imperial Assault as well in order protect my painted mini's.
I hated setting up Dead of Winter because there was no good way to separate all the pieces and cards with the Broken Token organizer it is much easier everything has its own place.
Unorganized to organized
I had my doubts about this product and how well made it would be. I was Not let down . It was nice and looks great..It went together nicely and it fits perfectly inside the box it makes all game pieces well organized and it makes set up a breeze..
Game is not complete until it has one of these babies!
by Sambro Jones
I'll be buying BT Organizers for any games that I have. Have the Blood Rage one as well and it is even more impressive!
AWESOME AND BEAUTIFUL STORAGE
by Piero Ruiz
As the title says, this is an awesome and beautiful storage to place and save all your pieces and components from your board game. The Knife first player token is fantastic and everything is so neat and nice you feel happy everytime you save and take out your stuff to play!
Fantastic For This Game
Dead of Winter comes with a myriad of components and the stock box, while coming with several baggies, just doesn't have much in the way of dividers or anything. This organizer was very easy to build and fits snugly in the box (a previous reviewer is right, you have to use a little force to get it in). The removable boxes and labels on every section make it a lot easier to clean up, especially with groups that are new to the game. I have yet to do heavy travelling with it, but a few quick trips have proven that components won't fall out of the organizers easily. I would say that this should be considered as a cost in buying the original game, seeing as how well this organizer complements it.
Very good fit!
The Organizer is very good fit in the game box! It worth every penny! Definitely recommend to everyone who has Dead of Winter board game!
