The player board base pieces are constructed from MDF rather than baltic birch, which may look different if attempting to finish with a wood stain.

I only have the base game so I can't comment on how the expansions fit, but there is room for more cards.
This insert greatly reduces setup and tear-down time, and the indented player boards make sure your cubes don't go all over the place if you accidentally bump the table.
Another excellent game insert from Broken. For those with all the expansions, there is a little lid lift which I believe has been mentioned. I used some of the extra throw away pieces (from frames 15A-19A) that comes with the kit to fashion a lid over the top most token tray. This makes it flush now with the extra lid lift and stops the money cubes from falling into each other. I can store my game vertically again. Maybe a little revision on the cutouts from Broken could make this a viable option without having to include a new frame.
Improves ease of play
The player boards really improve the game. The blocks stay where they should be. The other trays make setup quick and easy. Everything fits nicely in the original game box without the numerous baggies I was using before. The best feature is the player boards, but the kit as a whole has removed the tedium from the game.
Assembling the kit was straightforward. I only had to use my mallet a couple of times and all of the pieces fit snugly.
Not bad, but could be better
When I originally bought TM Broken Token hadn’t yet produced a storage solution for the game. At that time there’s was a hack solution using the Imperial Settlers storage kit as a stand in. This solution worked great, had lots of extra space, was quick to assemble, but required some cutting to allow the board to fit properly.
I discovered this just recently and decided to give it a try out of curiosity. I actually find that I prefer the imperial settler’s solution to this one. There’s a couple reasons for this:
1) Storage for the tokens is a poor fit, particularly the colored player tokens. The IS boxes worked better than the goofy spaces provided in this kit.
2) A lot of the space is taken up with the player trays that replace the player cards. I think these could be done in a much more elegant way that would save space for other uses.
3) The board still doesn’t quite fit in the box correctly. The board sits too high in the box for the lid to fit down properly.
4) There’s more than enough space in the box for the expansions, but this insert was clearly not designed with that in mind. Something to be aware of if you were hoping for a way to store all your TM parts together.
At the end of the day this kit gets the job done, which is why it gets a three. With some careful planning in the layout I think a much more efficient design could be created. As is, it barely meets the most basic requirements.
I have over a dozen Broken Token organizers and they are all excellent. But this organizer has the most dramatic effect on gameplay that I've seen so far. The player trays are outstanding. They clean up the table nicely, but more importantly they keep all resource production cubes in their correct places without the worries of bumping or sliding that accompany the original player mats. I recommend looking on boardgamegeek for a player tray insert that you can print, laminate, and place in the base of the Broken Token trays. They add a lot of color and make the trays look gorgeous. I also like that the cubes are all stored in the trays, which are then stored directly in the box. There is no placing the cubes in some separate storage container that you later need to sort out. Just open the box, hand someone a tray, and you are most of the way ready to play. I had originally purchased the Meeple Realty organizer, but I found it lacking in several ways. In my opinion, this Broken Token organizer is superior in every way.
Almost Perfect! ....but...
This organizer gets a few things incredibly right. However, there are aspects that hurt the overall quality of the insert.
1) The insert works well and greatly decreases set up and break down time.
2) The two tile/currency holders make the game so much better as each side of the table has access to resources. They could be slightly bigger, but they work fine enough.
3) Even after adding the expansion boards the contents still fit with a slight lid raise. This may bother some, but it's absolutely nothing a box band-it can't fix.
1) I wanted so much to love the wooden player boards... but as some have also expressed, the inconsistency in the branding/engraving is awfully inconsistent. I have one board that is deeply engraved, 2 that are medium with lighter/shallow areas, and one that is pretty lightly engraved. The format of the board is perfect and functionally sound....the branding/envraving is sloppy. They use a different material for the boards that is thicker and sturdy. I don't have an issue with this difference. I would recommend printing a template from Board Game Geek on photo paper and inserting it in the player board.
2) The player boards are stacked in the box and each have a small lip around the boarder. This is how the player cubes are stored.... it kind of sucks. It's not a huge deal but the lip is a little awkward and the cubes on the top board can get loose in the box. It's more of an annoyance than Anything. You may consider baggies or a rubber band-it to get that lid nice and tight.
RESPONSE: I'm sorry you had some boards that weren't consistent...We are happy to replace parts that don't make you thrilled when you open your kit. what concerns me is that your cubes are moving around in your box. The lips are designed to nest and should keep all those cubes in place... I have personally done the shake test on several boxes and not had a single cube out of place. It makes me wonder if something is off on the boards or the fit isn't tight enough once you put the game boards on top even the top board cubes should stay in place. Either way I'd love to figure that out with you because the thought of baggies makes us shiver. Anytime any of our products do not meet your expectations please put in a ticket on our website and we are happy to work with you to solve the issues. Thank you for taking the time to give us valuable feedback and a detailed review, we really appreciate it! Aminda - TBT Customer Support
The insert is excellent. Great storage solution that works well for quick setup. The only problem with it is if you have the Hellas/Elysium expansion you can't get the lid on square (which to be fair, is in the product description). Venus Next fits ok if you put the Venus board on top of the uppermost of the player trays (and be sure to get the Venus terraforming token too).
Be sure to look for the file on BoardGameGeek for a nice looking sheet to place in the player boards. (A trimmed down laminated page fits nicely and looks great).
Very nice organizer, although the assembly itself could be done better.
The organizer in itself is very nice, it's pretty nice that it fits neatly into the game's box. The assembly in itself could be done a bit better though, at least in my opinion, because sometimes the pieces required wood glue (not provided) to fix looser parts together, and other times the pieces were too tight and they splintered (happened around 4-5 times for the whole assembly, which is not that big of an issue).
Beautiful product, but has inconsistencies
by Ky Graff
This product does everything I expected it to. It organizes my game, cuts setup time in half, and makes my friend group envious. I was truly impressed at the ingenuity of its design. The pros by far outweigh the cons, as it is a fantastic product.
However, its shortcomings are in its production:
1) The player boards are made out of MDF (modern density fiberboard), and the rest of the kit is birch wood. I believe the reasoning behind this so the player boards won't warp as easily. If you plan on staining your organizer like I did (Sedona Red, its gorgeous), be prepared to deal with the pain on getting an even stain on the MDF.
2) The engraving on the player boards are far from consistent. There are some boards where it is easy to see the engravings for the various currencies, and some boards where they are feint. Staining helped this.
3) Be prepared to have some parts significantly darker than other parts. This goes for parts of the kit as well as player boards. Every sheet was a significantly different shade.
4) Some parts were sanded against the grain of the wood. Not the biggest deal, but can effect how the stain takes, should you want to stain it.
5) Lastly, the acrylic tokens are a huge upgrade. However, the box they are stored in is about a 1/16" too short. Not all of the tokens sit evenly in the box. One of the edges of the bases always has to be resting on another because the size of the box is just barely too small.
All-in-all, I absolutely love this product. The above cons are just nit-picked, and should only matter to those with the highest attention to detail, such as myself. If you're on the fence about this product, order it now. It is worth every penny.
use of MDF not disclosed
I bought this for the player boards, and before receipt bought aniline dyes to do each player board stain in the unique player color, as well as other supplies for staining and finishing the set. Unfortunately, and directly contrary to product images, and to my knowledge in a first for a BT insert, they chose to use MDF for the player board base and overlay. This is HUGELY disappointing as it will be impossible to stain the MDF in color due to it's dark tome and lack of grain. To do this properly, I'd need to stain them, then fill the etching with paint for contrast (especially for the darker player colors), then sand off the surface, but the stain just won't penetrate the MDF enough to make this work properly.
I also had the issue many complain about regarding incomplete etching, and had to have support replace 2 boards. They have already shipped them, support did this in less than a day, but I'm still highly dissapointed that I'll be unable to make these look like I intended due to t einclusion of MDF.
If there is any option to get the player based remade and re-shipped to me using their standard biurch product, I'm all ears, but I;d need to know that ASAP as I plan to start putting this together in a day or two. I'm working on the other components of the insert in the meantime.
RESPONSE: We are sorry for the lack of disclosure, I assure you this was not done to be secretive merely an oversight on our part. Thanks to your feedback we have updated the listing. We did have some concerns early on with the staining and put together this video to help people with this project https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoyxPwtMGy8 We started making the boards out of Birch first run and we had manufacturing issues and concerns over the trays warping and made the call to solve those problems with the use of MDF. It's true we rarely use it and regret not being more transparent about it with this kit. I have responded to your help ticket to see if we can resolve this issue.
Player and Token Trays enhance the play of the game. Other items are all helpful in setup and storage.
Assembly does take time. Glue should be used on all items that will be handled often -- such as player and token trays. It should also be used on other items that don't fit together tightly. I found the use of a rubber-headed mallet essential. Pressing with fingers felt like it might snap some of the pieces. The mallet applied the pressure uniformly on the pieces and eliminated that concern. Using a hammer and block of wood would produce the same result.
great product, could be tweeked for my preference
This product is excellent for the base game and the Venus Next expansion, holds everything in place with dragon shield sleeves on the cards. To get Venus Next in, I place 2 players color cubes in one tray and the Venus Next board and manual on the empty player tray. now to get the box to close flush you cannot have the base board and the Hellas board in the box without it raising the lid some. My only gripe about the organizer is yes the card shoe design on the sides looks nice, it gets in my way as i play with Base+CE+VN cards sleeved and use the shoe to help shuffle all 250+ cards and they always catch on the design, but still easier than shuffling with out using the shoe.
The trays make it, but the rest isn't worth it IMO
by John L
I want to start by saying that the trays are almost a necessity for playing this game. They are truly incredible, and I wish they were sold as stand-alone. If it weren't for the trays, I would give this product one star.
That being said, I actually don't think the rest of the pieces are worth it. The card holder is meant to be stood up to conserve table space, but it's so top-heavy that you have to use two hands to take cards out. The specialty tile holder has the same problem: if you stand it up on end, it's *going* to fall over; if it's meant to be laid flat, it's really difficult to get the tiles out, so you're better off just picking up the whole thing just to get out one tile. The cube (money) holders are nice, but their walls are so high that it takes forever to get cubes out, so I just set small piles of each to the side of my tray anyway; my wife can do it, but her fingers are tiny and nimble, not like my sausages. Everything fits in the box perfectly (which is honestly incredible), but if you plan on getting the expansion board or the Venus expansion, they won't fit in the box with this set. (The Venus cards will fit if you don't sleeve any cards, but you should definitely sleeve your cards! Haha.) And this one is really picky, but the track counters (the O2 tank, thermometer, and generation) don't fit standing up in their little box! If they'd just made their plastic bases maybe 1 mm narrower, they'd all fit! But as-is, you have to put one of them in upside-down to get them all in.
Overall, I'm happy I bought it for the trays, but again, I really wish they sold the trays as stand-alone products.
Essential box organizer AND game aid!
by Rogue Shindler
First off, the game comes with absolutely no game organization inserts or bags at all. It is has a lot of lovely pieces that you'll want to keep sorted, and no way to do that. As always, The Broken Token organizer does a masterful job of separating everything, and neatly Tetrising back into the original box. I especially like having the communal tokens split equally into two trays so you can have one at each end of the board so everyone can reach at least one token source.
But the biggest selling point for me in this product are the player trays. The game comes with a flat, printed mat for each player used to organize the production rate and current amount of six different resources. To avoid having to create six (or more) different token types, the game instead comes with very nice, shiny gold, silver, and bronze cubes (of different sizes for easy differentiation for the color blind) which are used as counters for all resources (ingenious, IMO). However, this means that one slight bump of the play mat or even the table can shift cubes from one resource area to another, or move production counters off their track leaving players to have to remember where everything was and hope to correctly restore the game state.
The BT player trays, however, provide a multi-layered inset of boxes laser etched to show which resources go where, what they are used for, and accompanying, nested boxes on the production tracks so your tracking cube cannot easily be dislodged from its current state. There is even a separate pool area to keep your unused player tokens, and each tray is just deep enough for its intended use, but shallow enough that when the trays are nested on top of each other, the tokens cannot be dislodged from their space or the tray while stored in the box. Crazy useful for this game!
Just What I needed
by STEVE W
Pro's = keeps the game organized divides the city tiles and currency tokens in half perfectly. Comes with cool rocket first player maker. Acrylic oxygen, temperature and generation markers in different colors. A special holder for the special tiles. The player boards are great to keep markers in place, with fitting in the box properly. Didn’t need any tools to assemble. Fits in the box perfectly.
Cons – the instructions denote A, B, C, D etc. but the sheets of wood are only marked with sheet # but without the parts being marked with the appropriate letter. It feels like balsa, which common for crafting, but not is known for durability.
Special cases – My special tile holder came with one piece slightly broken, completely useable. I haven’t reached out to Broken Token yet on this.
My Recommendations – for the buyer, take your time, enjoy the process. It snaps together like Legos, have wood glue and a small mallet just in case as well as a hobby knife. For Broken token, label the pieces better on the sheets within the borders so that it makes assembly easier, perhaps for some less dexterous people have an up charged version that is shipped assembled, as I know the assembly process could deter some people from this case
Have a history of messing up, when I try to assemble things. This was very easy and straight forward to assemble. I actually had fun putting it together. Does a great job of organizing everything.
The only downside that is expressed in the directions is you might want to purchase some wood glue because some of the pieces can be lose and for long term wear it is an added help. But overall this is worth the money. it is so much more fun to play with all the added parts. This is a weekly game we play and just having all of these working parts just completely adds to the game. Now every time we purchase a new game we see what type of organization is available because it is so worth the experience.
Great organiser, fits snugly into the box and holds all the components well. I quite enjoyed assembly too which was a bonus :)
Great Product & Customer Service
by Mike K.
The player boards are close to a necessity with TM. Due to the near zero friction between the cubes and original player mats the slightest nudge by any player will have everyone spending the next 5 minutes convincing themselves what their respective production levels were. The inset nature of the player boards with this organiser eliminate this nuisance from ever occurring. The laser etched production values and icons are simple yet elegant. The boards also include 10, 20 & 30 slots for all production elements; which are really handy if you ever get a run on production increases for any of them. They stack perfectly together and are designed to hold your cubes so game set up time is sped up.
The cube trays with built in storage for the city/greenery tiles are nice. As there are 2 of them they can be placed on the table so that all players have easy access to at least one supply. The wells for the bronze, silver and gold cubes are deep. Due the small nature of the bronze cubes they can be difficult to grab especially when the supply runs low. However this is a minor quibble and does not take away from the overall production value.
The two tiered speciality hex tray is great. It eliminates the search for the right one and keeps them all readily at hand. The fit is a little snug but I'd rather have that then have them falling out on their own.
The acrylic tokens are beautifully crafted and add flair over the stock white cubes for tracking Oxygen and Temperature levels. Likewise the retro style rocket first player token is a fun addition. The stock 1st player disk from the game even tuck neatly on the side of the storage box for the rocket token. We still use the 1st player disk to demarcate the discard pile from the draw pile.
The card holder easily holds all the cards from the base game; even sleeved. There is plenty of room so the Venus expansion would likely fit if the cards were not sleeved. As I do not have this expansion I cannot say if they would fit if they were sleeved though. The tray includes two dividers and has a great retro rocket motif on the sides.
The whole assembly process took approximately 1.5 hours and was simple and oddly enjoyable. The wood used has a nice tangible feel and even some nice visible wood grains on the larger pieces.
Care must be taken when assembling the card holder sides as the rocket motif cutout reduces rigidity when snapping pieces together. I only say this because in my ham handed efforts during assembly I broke one side. However a quick email via the website resolved this issue. I was pleasantly surprised that they would gladly replace and ship for free the piece that I had broken due to my own bumbling during assembly. The customer service before and after purchase was fantastic and is what truly fosters customer loyalty and satisfaction. I have and will continue to purchase other organisers from Broken Token
Yes, my title is a bit on the nose. But it is truly game changing. What was once a frustrating exercise to organize all of the cubes and tokens prior to a session, is now a cinch. If you, like me, don't have much free time for board gaming due to life's constraints, the organizer will get you in the game in minutes. Assembly was pretty easy, and it does come with a well illustrated manual to guide you through assembling each piece.
The player boards are a god send. Not only does it allow you to play the game worry free if your children or pets bump the table and send your game state into disarray, but the player cubes can actually be stored in the gaming tray itself! Speeding up game setup and breakdown even more! Brilliant design, honestly.
The etched wood for the player board sections are nice, but there is also a user-created inlay on BGG that can be printed to fit inside of the player tray for a touch more color. Between the inlay and Broken Token player boards, we get a product that is both extremely functional but also quite eye-pleasing and easy to use.
Although it was easy to assemble, I do recommend taking extra care when assembling the card tray. The rocket cutout design on the sides are thematic, but can be a bit fragile when applying force to assemble it. I also sleeved my cards and found they can sometimes "hang" on the rocket cutouts when returning cards to the tray. Not a big deal though. With an insert this nice, I really had to nitpick to find things that could be improved.
It is on the pricey side, but well worth it if this is a game that will often see your table.
I don't own any of the expansion content, so I'm not sure how well they will fit into this insert if you want to consolidate everything into one box.
Well done and very useful for the Terraforming Mars game
This is a very nice product overall and one that I would recommend to anyone who owns the Terraforming Mars Game. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is that hex token tray is difficult to put together correctly and the instructions are not as clear
as they could be. I misassembled it 3 times before I got it right. A good thing I didn't use superglue. Also Broken Tokes recommends a mallet. I found it to be a necessity. A few taps of a mallet got a long way towards good assembly. Most of the parts friction fit but keep some white wood glue handy. You can add some color to your trays with downloadable paper inserts, which I recommend. The Organizer not only helps organization and set but is a huge help in play. Well done.
Awesome player boards
by Jim Martin
The player board inserts having spaces for 10,20,30 sold this set for me. I opted not to put the sides on the player boards so they take up less space in the box. I also cut the card box down with my dremel tool about a half inch so that the expansion board fits it the original box as well.
Another quality product
A great organizer for Terraforming Mars, I was pleased with the purchase.
by Zachariah Wilson
The construction of the insert was pretty straight forward. It required sand a few pieces and glue to only the first player marker. The fit in the box might be a little too snug, but sanding some pieces seemed to have helped a great deal.
Very good organizer
Very good organizer the only issue I had was I had to glue the acrylic pieces together.
